Connecting with the universe

When he get outdoors and we leave the comfortable confines of our home, street or town, we open ourselves up to those special moments.

Moments where we witness nature in action; a rare glimpse of the wider universe like a shooting star, the microscopic world that turns beneath our feet as generations or the sun going down over a beautiful vista.

These moments are happening all the time, it is on us to go out to them.

They are life affirming, evidence that there are infinite worlds within our world existing and perishing every day, they are proof that we are part of something much greater, beyond our daily concerns and efforts.

I had one of these special mindful moments last night when me and my dad saw that the majestic Harvest Moon had come out from behind the clouds.

We marvelled at it from a third floor window but couldn’t quite get a full view because it was partially obscured by foliage on the top of a hill which towers on the other side of the river.

We were desperate to get a good photo of it and see it in all its glory so we made a snap decision to march to the top of the hill.

It meant wrapping up warm, it meant marching to the top of a pretty steep hill at night.

But the view from the top was its own reward.

The moon appeared to rise up in front of us and the lights of the town shone below. Cars winding their way down the road looked like Hotwheels cars from way up there. It was like looking down on a moving model village.

So get outdoors, you never know, you might be rewarded by one of these special moments.
