Just being in a forest is revitalising, the fresh, clean air cleanses your lungs, expells the fuzz of urban life from your head and helps you press the reset button.

Here in Cumbria, and the United Kingdom as a whole, we are privileged to have such places….right on our doorstep.
I paused there because that phrase has become a massive cliché, but it is true.
If you’re anything like me, this becomes really apparent on your intermittent visits to the little havens that are ‘right on our doorstep’ and like me, you probably tell yourself you need to visit them more often.

Urban living and the nine to five grind is getting on top of you, the migraines have resurfaced, it feels like there is a pressure in your forehead that twists your face into a constant frown and you’re grinding your teeth.
And then you get to a forest.
The shelter of the trees makes it feel unseasonably warm. The cool air renews your lungs and brings a spring to your step and the trickle of streams and rustle of leaves charms your mind. You are home.
Included in this post are my photos from a 10k trail run around Ennerdale Water which culminated in six minutes in the lake. It was just what the doctor ordered.
