Living in the Lake District is amazing and I wouldn’t swap it for anything, but every now and then an excuse presents itself to stay in a big city for a weekend and I find it’s a welcome change of pace.

We were in Sheffield this weekend for a family event and I’ve found, despite being a three hour drive away, it has more in common with home than I first thought.

A trip to the the botanical gardens felt like a little dose of the green spaces back home in Cumbria. It was a haven for squirrels, birds and a refreshing injection of colour, right in the heart of the city.
It’s paths probably wind on and on for miles but we visited the Art in the Gardens event.

It featured art of all styles from local artists both in stalls and the gardens’ main observatory.
We then paid a visit to the Noodle Inn, a restaurant we love in the city.

We parked the car out of the way on a residential street and walked over to the busy row of restaurants, bars and takeaways and as we did, I felt a real sense of calm wash over me.
I think this is because no matter how late in the evening, there is always life all around you in the city.

Businesses are always open, lights are always shining and people are always living as the main character of their own story.
I loved seeing decades-old signs from a forgotten area, communities within communities and the abundance on offer in the city.

In this post, you can see my pictures from our little urban adventure.
