Few things bring me joy and a sense of reassurance like the echoes of the past that can be found in Britain.

My home county of Cumbria is especially full of them, remanats of events, triumphs and civilisations past.
Broken remains of once majestic castles or the imposing Hadrian’s Wall

If you love walking in the Lake District, Watchhill in Cockermouth is a must, it has stunning views of the fells and coast from the top and it features many of these echoes from history.
As you can see from my pictures, there is a real sense of drama to the landscape.

Old stone walls, built by the toil of farmers, give the place a timeless feel, they will no doubt still stand for many generations to come.
The ravens will no doubt be keeping watch from those walls long after we are all gone.

The trees at the very top are sinewy with ancient roots clinging to the Earth.
Their branches and trunks lean drastically to one side but they never fall, they are frozen like that, locked in the many moments from years gone where uncompromising winds have relentlessly battered them. But still they stand.

As you can see in the third picture. Some kind of headstone still stands at the top, it looks ancient.
Having endured the elements there for many years, its inscription is indistinguishable, but still you can hear the words echo and history emanates from it.
